V.I. Locally Grown Market: Week of September 14, 2014

Good afternoon!
Now is the time of year when this island is HOT. Luckily it’s easy to cool off in the beautiful Caribbean Sea, especially if you have a chilled gallon of delicious Mango Twist on hand from Queen’s Maubi – the rum is optional.
As always you’ll find a great assortment of locally grown and produced veggies, fruits, flowers, baked goods, snacks, and preserves. Support your Locally Grown Market! We’ll see you on Wednesday!

with warm wishes,
Your Locally Grown Producers

V.I. Locally Grown Market: Week of September 7

Good Morning!

Your Locally Grown market is now open and accepting orders! All this rain has made for great planting weather at the farm. The fields are packed with all sorts of delicious greens and vegetables that will be featured in the Fall Community Supported Agriculture produce shares. The CSA starts on September 13, so now is the perfect time to sign up for a produce, fruit, egg, and/or coffee share.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

Cheers,

Jillian & your Locally Grown producers

V.I. Locally Grown Market: Week of August 31. 2014

Good Morning!

Your Locally Grown market is now open and accepting orders! If you haven’t had a chance to try the delicious local cooking green called Chaya, now is a great time to do so. Simply boil it for 10 minutes and then use it just as you would spinach in any recipe. The only difference is that Chaya is packed with way more calcium and other vital nutrients then spinach.

The avocados are getting even sweeter and more flavorful as the season goes on. They won’t be here much longer though so get them while you still can. Try some of Nidulari’s incredible banana ketchup on top of sliced avocado for a delicious snack.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

Cheers,
Jillian & your Locally Grown producers

V.I. Locally Grown Market: Week of August 24, 2014

Good Morning!
Your Locally Grown market is open and accepting orders! We’re offering beautiful fresh basil of a few varieties: Purple basil, which is an Italian Genovese type good for pesto and Italian dishes, Thai basil – great for stir-fries, and Holy Basil, an Ayurvedic herb that makes a delicious and healthful tea and is also used in southeast Asian cuisine.
This is the height of avocado season! Place an order for these creamy, rich, versatile fruits and make guacamole and dips; add slices to sandwiches and soups, even blend into smoothies and delicious raw desserts. You can stock up and freeze ripe avocado pulp mashed with lime juice for future enjoyment.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

With warm wishes,
Emma Haynes & your Locally Grown producers

Good morning!
Your VI Locally Grown market is open for orders. If you haven’t tried Chef Tahirah AbuBakr’s excellent Island Delight vegan veggie burgers, consider giving them a whirl – these healthy, delicious, perfectly seasoned, award-winning veggie burgers make an easy and nutritious weeknight meal.
Nidulari is baking wonderful coconut tarts along with her excellent sourdough breads in a wood-fired outdoor oven – the tarts are tender, just sweet enough, and melt in your mouth.
As always, we look forward to seeing you in the courtyard on Wednesday!

with warm wishes,

VI Locally Grown Market: Week of August 10th 2014

Good morning!
Glorious rain has greened up this beautiful island. Mango trees are flowering for a second flush of luscious fruit. Have you tried the prized Julie mango yet? These sweet, spicy, medium-sized mangoes are the jewel of Caribbean mango varieties. If you order a pound or two (or more!) through the market this week, feel free to specify in your order comments that you’d like Julies included in your selection.
As always, your Locally Grown market is a wonderful source of sustainable, healthful, locally grown and produced veggies, herbs, fruit, flowers, baked goods, snacks, jams, jellies, condiments, preserves and goodwill! We look forward to seeing your this Wednesday!

With warm wishes,
Emma Haynes & your Locally Grown producers
